Summer Observations

The simple fact that I sit here, in my room, instead of being outside on this lovely day is a minor atrocity. I yammer on all the time to people foreign to the Jersey Shore about how wonderful it is, especially in the summer, yet I am neglecting it at this very moment. Maybe it’s because I have a soccer tryout later and I’ll be disliking the heavy summer heat weighing down on me as I try and impress complete strangers with my ability and work ethic. Maybe it’s not, I don’t know for sure. I can my neighbor’s children outside laughing and playing, enjoying the summer weather and cool breeze on our heavily shaded street, due to the canopy of a large and extending trees hovering above. It’s a quiet street, one filled with many pleasant memories of my youth. Here I am, talking like I’m old. Ain’t that a kick in the head. If only my allergies would cease to exist, I’d feel a whole lot younger again. It’s one of the only unpleasant memories I have of these overlapping spring/summer seasons because it limits my physical activity and really brings down my overall mood a few notches. Soon enough, the flowers and trees will be rid of pollen and my nose/lungs will be working at full capacity again.

It truly is wonderful though, being done with school and back home with many of the luxuries that I dearly missed. It cannot be overstated how appreciative I am of a real shower and bathroom, the lack of a roommate, constantly refilled refrigerator, and the freedom to sleep and wake up at my leisure.

The freedom might have to take a cut back soon because the nights of drinking and drinking heavily will not be this frequent once I begin working again. The empty beer bottles on both sides of my computer are a nice, daily souvenir to remind me how lucky I am and how the night went. Luckily not all these bottles are mine or people who might wander in could think I’m something of an alcoholic, which I am certainly not. I just like to enjoy myself from time to time and beer is one of the ways I do so. One day, I’d like to be wealthy enough to simply taste as many good beers as possible and expand my beer horizons without taking serious hits to my wallet. I yearn for the days when I no longer have to drink Natural Light or Keystone and can drink good beer comfortably and delightfully. As much as Natty has become a staple of my teenage years, it is really just not good beer to drink and I’d prefer other, better brands if possible.

Ah, maybe it’s time to stop typing and go outside. The breeze feels nice coming through the window and I think I can survive any onslaught the pollen brigade decides to mount against me, at least for a little while. Never did figure out how to end these little posts with flair. So for now, this is me signing off, awkwardly.
