Alright, so I’ve got 10 minutes before I need to head to class; let’s see if I can get some good thoughts down about the finale, season 5, and the future of Walt, Jesse, Hank and the gang.

The finale was pretty damn incredible, to me. I thought it wrapped up everything pretty nicely, if that’s something you look for in a show. Tied up every loose end for the most part and brought everyone’s story full circle or to the homestretch here for these last 8 episodes. The prison montage was easily one of the shows best little sequences both visually and plot-wise. Really dug the Godfather and GoodFellas nods with the quick cuts and uninterrupted imagery of violence and brutality. Well done.

I’ll transition quickly to the one thing I didn’t like that apparently other people were disappointed with too: the use of Jesse in the finale and late in the season. Felt too dry and forced, didn’t have enough to do and as the show’s most interesting character, IMO, there should have been more of him or at least more interesting stuff for him to do/say. Maybe this is a ploy of the creator/writers/directors to set up the final 8 for Jesse and I could definitely see this being the case. However,  I did like the nostalgic moment between Walt and Jesse at the end, recapping how they’d gotten to where they are now and why they can’t ever go back. They’ve really come a long way as a partnership and friends too, to a degree.

One of my favorite shots of the season/series: Skyler’s revealing of the fuck-ton of money in the storage unit. Reminded me of the sequence in Blow with George and his partner counting all the money and the endless number of boxes filled with cash in every room of the house. Really cool.

Hank finding out about Walt was a great scene but did sort of leave me questioning how he found out. As people have stated, Walt’s been extremely cautious and careful to cover his ass so a book from Gale in the bathroom seems a bit odd but was an interesting way to show Hank the truth. Sets up a crazy 8 episodes for these two to battle it out.

Everyone’s curious what’s gonna happen. Here’s my take that I randomly thought up after reading articles, reviews, and Q&A with the creator:

Walt was shown at the doctor’s office getting an MRI for the remission of his cancer, hopefully. Then he told Skyler he was out for good. Hank finds out. There will be some kind of cat & mouse game with these two for the first few episodes. I think either Walt kills Hank or Hank can’t deal with anymore emotional stress on him and the entire family, tells Walt to get the fuck out of this area and start a new life somewhere which would explain the future reference with him in the diner with the fake ID. Still trying to piece together the M60 in the trunk. I’m leaning towards Hank being killed and Walt being chased by Gomez and the DEA or Jesse realizing something that Walt did to manipulate him (Brock to the hospital), flips on Walt and Walt ends up facing down Hank/DEA/Jesse in a hail of gunfire. It sounds a bit crazy and it’s a premature theory, definitely time to change/modify it. Especially after seeing the first few eps next summer.

I certainly can’t fucking wait. This show got me hooked quick and hard. One of the best television shows I’ve ever have the privilege to watch. Gonna be sad to see it end.

The scene where Gus cleans up the Walt/Jesse/Gale dilemma is pure magic. Cinematic gold. So much tension & calmness. Pure perfection. Gus is a cold-blooded motherfucker. Couldn’t have filmed that scene any better. Huge reason why I love this show and creating TV/Films.
